Paul Newman’s Eyes

Every day should come as some surprise

A while ago, I played my lovely (and actually rather hip) mother Art Brut for the first time.

“Good grief! He sounds just like Wreckless Eric” she didn’t say. But it sounds better than what she actually did say, which was a meandering exploration of Eddie Argos’ talk singing, clear punk roots and brilliant usage of sub-par guitar talent.

“Nonsense,” I didn’t say. “What could this paragon of modern rock have to do at all with a conked-out punk who is currently authoring World Cup songs?”

But I was wrong, and as such shall eat my words. Please, listen to Wreckless Eric – Art Brut’s Beta test – and appreciate how magical he is.
